Lake Tahoe Bliss

Ahhhh. I feel like a new woman. The hubby and I took a little trip up the hill to Lake Tahoe sans kiddos yesterday. It was fabulous. No agenda, no interrupted conversations, no moderating of little girl drama. No “eewwww’s” coming from the peanut gallery should we sneak a kiss or two. And no cell phones (reception is bad at the cabin, but it worked in our favor!).

Although we were only there for a day and a half, the time seemed to go by so steadily we never felt rushed. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t feel rushed in my usual day to day, whether it’s to get the girls to school on time or even to meet a client.

First thing we did when we arrived at the cabin was uncork a bottle of wine and head down to the little private beach that borders our friends’ property. There’s nothing like making out on the beach to set the tone for a night alone! I’m just sayin’ …..

Last night we indulged in a very romantic dinner at a little gem we discovered, Cafe Fiore. It’s hardly a cafe, rather a fabulous quaint restaurant with an impressive menu and exceptional wine list. We were in heaven.

Back at the cabin we star gazed by candlelight while listening to coyotes singing all around us. It was nothing less than awesome.

We slept in until 10am this morning! It was great! No alarm clock. We just woke up when we were ready. After an amazing brunch we put our suits on and walked back down to the beach. We literally had the entire little beach to ourselves and had so much fun together. I hardly turn down a dare and before I knew it I was about to go skinny dipping (sorry if any of your neighbors saw, Vicki! LOL). However the water felt like it literally had ice cubes keeping it cold and I lost my courage! At least the intention was there and we shared a good laugh. Although I think my hubby had the better end of the deal. After all, I was the one running around naked ;)

When’s the last time you made out with your husband? I mean, really made out? Like when you did when you were dating. My husband and I have been married for almost 14 yrs, together for 17 yrs. We’ve literally grown up together from our 20′s. After this trip I can tell you that the last time I made out with my husband for hours (yes, HOURS) was yesterday. And today! Woo hoo! We felt like we did when we first met. It was awesome.

We’re already planning our next date.  Our trip to Tahoe was kind of spontaneous (thanks for the cabin, Rick & Vicki!) and so overdue. It’s so important for us to reconnect without any distractions on a regular basis. And it’s so much fun! Ooh la la…..  And our daughters appreciate our time away.  Of course we miss each other, but it’s so important for them to see us doing things to nurture our relationship.  It teaches them an important lesson and they can feel the love.

When was the last time you and your significant other took a little trip away without the kids?  Where did you go?  I’d love to hear about your fave trips and tips for the perfect lovers getaway!

  1. Sounds like the perfect getaway!

Hubby and I just got back from an overnight trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. We stayed at the most adorable B&B and did some hiking around some beautiful lakes. It was extremely refreshing! So much so that we’re hoping to plan another getaway in September – hopefully for two nights!

  2. Sounds heavenly, Christine! We stayed at Rick & Vicki’s cabin with them once- unfortunately, there was no making out on the beach as it was Winter time. :) Sometimes as parents we feel guilty for taking time off for ourselves, but it is truly important to nurture the marriage relationship as well- makes us better parents! Well, that and a few glasses of wine, of course!
