Let the games begin! Day II of Fan Appreciation Week

Posted on March 22, 2011    |    14 comment(s)

We stirred up some serious competitive streaks in few of the OMG fans today!  To launch Fan Appreciation Week, I ran a referral contest to see which OMG fan could refer the most friends to “like” the OMG fan page.  There was a ton of participation, however there were three fans in particular who were going for gold.  They referred over 200 new fans between the three of them!  There was so much banter on the OMG fan page – we were all having a blast.  Thanks so much to everyone who participated!  The winners of Monday’s contest will each receive a $25 gift card for Mommy Juice Wines as well as an OMG wine glass!

I’ll be giving away fabulous prizes every day this week so be sure to join us for all the fun!  Tuesday’s theme is Pay It Forward.  Your mission should you choose to accept it is to nominate a friend who you feel is well deserving of a little something fabulous.  Reply to this blog thread & tell us why she should win.  Your post will enter her to win a beautiful wine bottle topper from A Sassy Glass & a $25 gift card for Mommy Juice Wine! You might also win a little somethin’ somethin’ for your random act of kindness…

For those of you who are in San Francisco Bay area, I’ll be running a special, local contest for you.  Our good friends at 7×7 Magazine are hosting Meet the Mag 7 -An exclusive party in celebration of 7 young Bay Area entrepreneurs in food and wine.  To win a pair of tickets to this exclusive industry event, I challenge you to pay it forward.  No act of kindness is too small to make an impact in someone’s life.  Share the love.  Email me at christine@OMGisoneedaglassofwine.com & tell me why you deserve to win & party with the Magnificent 7.  I will announce the winner Tuesday at 7pm PST.

Be sure to redeem your Fan Appreciation 50% OFF discount code online exclusively on OMG wine glasses & wine totes.  Use OMGFAN50 at checkout.  Coupon is good thru this Friday, March 25th.

  1. I would like to nominate my daughter…a single mom who struggles daily raising a child on her own, but finds time to volunteer, finds money to donate to those less fortunate… grows a garden big enough that she can take several bags of fresh produce weekly thru the summer to the local foodbank…. works full time and still has time for her mom too! I just admire her so….

  2. I want to nominate my best friend, Jen VanHoutan. We have been friends since we were one year old and now live in different states, Jen in Chicago and myself in Austin. Jen has three children, Noah (6) and twins, Laine and Emily (5). We were enjoying raising our children to be lifelong friends, just as we are. But two years ago, her life changed. Noah was diagnosed with Batten Disease: currently has no cure, ending in death between the age 8 and 12. And as if that wasn’t enough, five months later her daughter, Laine, was also diagnosed.
Jen strives to make each child’s life as normal as possible, as she and her husband watch two of the three deteriorate in front of their eyes. The way she chooses to live her life and deal with life’s challenges has made me be a better mom. And her children will leave a lasting impression on mine.
But even in all the adversity, they live happy and joyful lives, counting their blessings not their strife. Every summer we get our families together, including the grandparents. And as mom’s we sit and enjoy plenty of glasses, probably too many, and laugh about childhood memories. You can check out more information about the VanHoutan family at http://www.Noahshope.com.
Jen is amazing and is so deserving of a little something fabulous!

Oh, and did I mention she just started enjoying the benefits of a nice glass of wine while soaking in the tub?? She NEEDS this topper!!

  4. When I read the theme for today’s Fan Appreciation Week I only thought of one person- Laytisha Hays. My dear friend is the definition of Pay It Forward. She is a awesome mom of two girls Maya & Ella (both under 7) and has also taken in her 2 teenage nieces Jada & Jess. Laytisha is a stay at home mom who runs a daycare out of her home, cleans offices on the weekends, and is going back to school for her Masters in Teaching. This woman just goes and goes and goes! Always doing for her family and never taking the time to spoil herself. When she is not running to the Y for swimming lessons or going to gymnastic meets for her daughters she can be found studying her little heart out. She is so deserving of a fabulous something just for HER! It is time someone spoke up LOUD and clear and sang her praises. Laytisha would welcome the chance to sit and enjoy a chilled glass of Mommy Juice Wines! Please pick her. Thank you.

  6. I nominate Laurel Robinson, she is an amazing mother of 2. She loves to volunteer in her community, doing everything from tutoring adults so they can get their GED to organizing fundraisers. Her husband is a pilot so she often finds herself playing the role of a single parent. She would love to be able to sit back and enjoy a nice glass of wine and use a cute bottle stopper.

  7. I’m nominating my friend, Corinna Chinn (who is also a fan of OMG). I first her 5 years ago and was immediately struck by her funky sense of humor and willingness to help others. Never one to take the easy way out, she left work to have…not one…not two…but THREE babies! It takes a lot of hard work to change from a two-person, two-income family to a five-person, one-income family and she has managed it with grace and that crazy sense of humor. The “Triple Chinns” are 3 years old now and by the end of the day when she says “OMG” she MEANS it! She deserves a little something fab.

  8. I’d like to nominate my friend Candy Stacks. We met 12 years ago thru an infertility group on the internet. We struggled together thru years of frustration and disappointment, successes and failures. I had a child 2 years later, but for Candy there was much more to her goal of motherhood. She needed further procedures, interventions, unfortunate miscarriages and finally a baby 4 years after we first met. Candy had more early miscarriages before finally carrying a baby into 2nd trimester. Even with bedrest and an inversion bed to prevent dialation, she delivered a tiny baby girl way too soon. Emma lived just 10 days but made an incredible impact on everyone who knew her story. After her experience, Candy created a foundation to provide blankets and burial clothes to other tiny babies who never make it home. She also raises funds to assist with burials of these babies. Absolutely incredible strength for what she’s been thru. (http://www.emmazinggracefoundation.org/history.html)

Candy continued her mission to add another child to her family. Another miscarriage, long hospital stay and delivery finally brought her a son 4 years ago. But then she learned that her firstborn child had a very rare disease called Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA). It’s a horrible disease that has already taken so much from this beautiful child. Friedreich’s Ataxia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedreich‘s_ataxia) is the disease that will have her in a wheelchair by 16, and unfortunately will shorten her life significantly. (Approx by age 35). But Candy has taken once again taken devastating news and turned it into something positive. She’s raising awareness of FA thru multiple fundraisers and is hellbent on finding a cure for FA before anymore of her daughters mobility is taken.

Candy is the most incredible and strong person I’ve ever had the privilige of meeting. I hope that you will also agree, she deserves a little something for herself!

  9. I would like to nominate my mom – she moved from Arizona to South Dakota to be closer to my sister who is undergoing Cancer treatment – my mom takes her 3 hrs away (1.5 hrs each way) every monday for her treatment – not only that, but she goes to my sister’s house to clean, take care of her 4 children or any other needs my sister may have or need….she’s amazing!

  10. I would like to nominate my niece Dawna Cornejo. Dawna is a mother of 4 AMAZING children – she volunteers a their schools, volunteers in her community and still has time to take care of her husband. She is the first to step up to the plate if someone needs help with ANYTHING. Although we live a thousand miles away from each other she makes sure that I know what is going on in their lives and she is interested in my little family. She has raised the most amazing group of children and she has done it with no family support. She runs the tightest home I have ever seen and her children are very well balanced. I look at her strength that leads her little family through thick and thin and I admire all that she ha accomplished. When she had her first child she decided that it would be most important for her to stay home and raise her kiddo’s – it was a huge adjustment to go from a two-income family to one – but she hs managed to do it with ease. Cost cutting, coupon clipping and everything she can do to make sure they have the best of everything – including family vacations.

Dawna deserves her own special glass and wine to sit back and relax in her little backyard when she puts all her kiddo’s down for the night. When you meet her – you will know that you have met an AMAZING woman (or I still see her – a little girl)….

  11. I would like to nominate my mother. For 26 years she has sacrificed unselfishly to take care of my sister full time. My sister was born with a genetic disorder called rett syndrome and she has never progressed past an infant stage. Her body size has grown almost normally over the years though. My mother doesn’t get any relief in caring for my sister other than my wonderful step dad that has stepped in and been the only dad my sister has ever known. I try to help out when I can but I live two and a half hours away. My sister goes through spells where she doesn’t sleep for five or six days straight and my mom and step dad take turns staying up with her. My mother is such a strong and inspirational person and deserves something special to show her how great she is for the sacrifices that she makes :)

  12. I would like to nominate my girlfriend Kelly! We’ve been friends for four years. Our kids are the same ages (8 & 4), we are both stay at home moms. Kelly is amazing at interior decorating and also sells Southern Living. She is active in her kids schools, being Room Mom for her son’s class and working hard for her PTA! She is an amazing mother, wife and friend! She is one of the strongest, most determined woman I know! A little over a year ago her husband was suddenly diagnosed with brain cancer. On the very day that her husband was in the hospital having surgery a storm hit her brand new house (they had just moved a few months prior to the diagnosis) and damaged their roof, windows, master carpet and who knows what else. All of their family is out of state. Her husband has had several surgeries & is constantly on chemo. The amount of stress, heartache & responsibility that my friend has handled on her own over the last year is inconceivable to me! Through it all, she is still taking meals to others, staying on top of housework, working out, living an extremely healthy lifestyle, running kids to sports and activites and keeping her family life “normal” for her two babies! Kelly loves a good glass of wine and it would be great if you could honor her in this way! Thank you!

  13. I would like to nominate my very good friend Heather. A year ago she packed up her kids, doggies, and only essential belongings to leave behind everything she has worked toward including her teaching career all to escape an abusive husband. She has sacrificed privacy, individual rooms of her 3 kids, an luxeries like sleeping in a bed to provide an emotionally safe environment for herself and kids. I want her to know how much I miss her every day and how proud I am of her daily strength and tenacity. She questions herself every day wether she did the right thing and I don’t know how to assure her that it will get better. We used to share a bottle of wine while helping each other deal with failed marriages. Some long distance mommy juice would help close the miles between Colorado and California. Love you heather!! You are one of the strongest women I know. Never sell yourself short no matter how hard it gets!!

  14. I would like to nominate my wife, Tina.
I reside overseas for employment and can only visit my wife and children, sporadically.

My wife Tina keeps a large home as if if were a 5 star hotel.
Tina often comments that the house requires staff, Ha, not on my salary.
The battle to have the children keep their rooms clean is constant.

Preparing the house for sale compounds the need to patrol the house for half eaten peanut butter sandwiches and soda cans.

As my wife does not drive, (former medical condition), she is forced to deliver our 3 children to there various activities in the most inovative ways possible.

A glass of wine at the end of the day is my wife’s saviour.
As the house is asleep by 9:00P.M., wife included, out of exhaustion, a glass after dinner helps set one’s sight on the next hectic day.

As Mother’s day is fast approaching, I hope that I can help give directions to the children from afar, that they chill a bottle for Mom, on her special day.
