When Life Hands You Cheap Wine…Make Sangria!

Posted on July 6, 2011    |    1 comment(s)

I’ve lived in Sacramento, California my entire life (for the most part).  Heat waves are nothing new.  But I can never manage to acclimate.  In fact I’m sweating more than a whore in church as I type this.  Not pretty & I’m not happy about it.  So in an attempt to curb my bitterness I’m whipping up something sweet.  I hope you enjoy my favorite sangria recipe.  Please feel free to pass it along & also share your own recipe in the comment posts.  Cheers!

6 bottles sweet red (Barefoot Sweet Red is perfect – you don’ t need to add sugar if you use sweet wine)
4 bottles blood red orange Italian soda (Trader Joe’s)
4 shots triple sec
2 cups raspberries
2 cups blackberries
2 cups fresh pineapple (canned in juice okay)
3 each oranges, lemons & limes, wedged not sliced

Mix all liquid ingredients together.  Add berries & pineapple.  Squeeze citrus wedges into mixture then toss in the peels. Chill overnight.  Serve over ice.  <clink!>

  1. I assume this lasts you at least two or three nights, but what about if you’re having company?? :-P But truly, how long will this stay drinkable in the fridge, if I’m not having a big ol’ shindig? Thanks!
